Emails need to be personalized. Numbers need to be right. Every message needs a human touch.
But starting from scratch is hard, and you can only write so much. Full automation is scary.
I present a middle ground.
Write emails with Claude. Save to Gmail drafts. Review before sending.
Ask Claude to draft an email to your last important contact.
Read it carefully. You'll find at least one thing you'd change:
That's why this saves drafts, not sends.
AI: [writes + sends]
You: [checks sent folder]
You: "Wait, that's wrong..."
[too late]
You: "Draft a follow-up"
Claude: [saves to drafts]
You: [reviews in Gmail]
You: [sends when ready]
1. Tell Claude what you need
"Draft a follow-up to the investor I met yesterday. Keep it casual."
2. Claude saves draft to Gmail
Not your sent folder. Your drafts.
3. You review and send
Same safety. Half the friction. Zero copy-paste.
Add three lines to your Claude Desktop config:
{
"mcpServers": {
"gmail-drafts": {
"url": "/mcp"
}
}
}
Authenticate with Gmail. Done.

Only the gmail.compose scope, which allows managing drafts. We use it only to create, list, update, and delete drafts. We don't read your inbox or send emails.
No. Draft content passes through our server only to create or update drafts in Gmail. We don't store or log email bodies. OAuth tokens are stored in memory or Redis to authenticate requests and are removed when they expire, are revoked, or during routine cleanup.
Yes. The server is open source. You can run it on your own infrastructure if you prefer. Beta users can use our hosted version for convenience.
Remove the config from Claude Desktop and revoke access in your Google Account permissions. Your drafts remain in Gmail.
